What is Ecstatic Dance?
Dance as a form of meditation is as ancient as humanity itself, and free-form sacred dance is a practice found in many cultures, including within religious traditions. Through free-form dance, we move out of the busyness of our minds and into our bodies, allowing us to let go of thoughts and expectations. Instead, we move in a way that aligns with how our body and spirit naturally want to express.
This practice offers a space to release emotions or energy that may have accumulated over the week, all within a non-judgmental and loving environment. Whether someone needs to express joy, release frustration, or simply celebrate life, all expressions are welcomed and honored with love. Even feelings like anger are embraced, as they can help us understand what we need to change in our lives, while celebrations allow us to give thanks for the blessings we receive.
Ecstatic Dance invites us to be present with ourselves just as we are, free from judgment or societal expectations. It provides a moment to break away from the pressure to conform, allowing us to embrace freedom and spontaneous expression, which in itself is a beautiful and powerful experience.
We use dance in a mindful, sacred, and sober setting to help release emotions and energy, break through behavioral patterns, and bring more joy, connection, and a sense of aliveness into our lives.
